Who are we?

Stars Youth Refuge is a non-profit organisation with a longterm goal which aims to provide accommodation solutions for young females at risk of homelessness.  Working collaboratively with youth and families to provide a strategic, individualised service that help youth remain supported in obtaining goals and long-term accommodation. We encourage proactive engagement with relevant agencies and service providers that enable youth to achieve independence and build stronger relationships including reuniting with their families, if possible.

Who do we help?

Stars Youth Refuge is a community-based organisation which operates with a professional team of case workers and educators. We provide a specialised service which is tailored to those from CALD backgrounds with a deeper understanding of those from Islamic faith. However, we accept all females from all race and religious backgrounds who are under 25 years.

How do we help?

By providing a service which is specialised to assist CALD vulnerable female youth and families, Stars Youth Refuge gives adolescents and young women a safe place to discuss issues with supportive staff who understand their emotional and cultural needs.

As a crisis service, young people may come to Stars Youth Refuge in distress, therefore, we handle all cases with sensitivity and provide individualised case plans. Youth who access the service are individually assessed with a person-centred approach aimed at identifying risks associated with youth homelessness.  We have a strong focus on using strength-based goal setting to empower young people in making choices about their future. These choices reflect aspects of our youths’ life and encourages building skills, seeking education and employment, transitioning to long-term accommodation, and developing healthy interpersonal relationships. Providing an effective and quality service is achieved by reviewing, evaluating, and monitoring each individual case.

Community

Stars Youth Refuge supports youth in the community by continuing to support client's crisis by building strong community networks. Our team is dedicated to ensuring the youth are able to sustain tenancies, continue to build healthy relationships with family members and work towards educational and financial goals.  Home visits are conducted to discuss issues which may arise when living independently. This is to ensure the youth continue to feel supported in gaining independence.

Stars Youth Refuge values community input by building community awareness of the issues that may contribute to youth homelessness. Networking with various individuals, schools and community groups offers Stars Youth Refuge the resources and best practice in supporting young people.
